Cementing Plug
The primary purpose of a cementing plug is to create a barrier between the cement slurry and the surrounding mud. This barrier effectively prevents any mud from interfering with the cementing process, thus ensuring the overall quality of the cementing job. Cementing plugs can be categorized into two types: conventional and specialized plugs. Conventional cementing plugs are usually comprised of a top plug and a bottom plug.
On the other hand, specialized cementing plugs serve specific purposes such as two-stage cementing (which may involve a top, middle, or bottom plug), drilling liner cementing (involving a drill pipe plug or a hollow plug), or composite casing (requiring a composite plug).
